Choosing a travel eSIM: check these 5 things first

Most eSIM plans look alike; the real differences hide in the terms. Run through this list before you buy.
1. Coverage and networks
Make sure your destination is on the coverage list, and check which local networks the plan uses. Regional plans (for example "Southeast Asia, 8 countries") suit multi-country trips; single-country plans are usually cheaper.
2. Read data and validity together
"10 GB / 30 days" and "10 GB / 7 days" are very different products. Pick the validity to match your trip, then estimate data: maps and messaging alone use roughly 0.5 GB a day.
3. Compare cost per GB
Comparing total prices across different data sizes is misleading. Our lists can be sorted by price per GB to find the better value at a similar size.
4. Hotspot and speed caps
If you need to share data with a laptop or travel companions, check that hotspot is allowed. "Unlimited" plans often slow down after a daily allowance; the cap is written in the terms.
5. Activation rules
Some plans start counting the moment you install them; others start when you first connect abroad. Installing the day before you leave and switching on data roaming after landing is the safest approach.
